The Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid

Lately it seems like everyone is talking about Hyaluronic Acid!

More specifically, Hyaluronic Acid Serum for the skin.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Why all the hype about Hyaluronic Acid?

And, what are the Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Serum?

Let's get into it...

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar molecule with a clear, gooey-like texture that's produced naturally within our bodies.

It's mostly found in our skin cells, in our joints (connective tissues), and in our eyes.

The word acid in the name can be misleading to some who are only familiar with exfoliation acids in skincare.

Hyaluronic Acid is actually nothing like what you think of when you think of that type of acid. It's actually a hydrating acid.

Hyaluronic Acid brings water to our skin using humectants.

Humectants help collect moisture and bind it to our skin, which then allows the skin to absorb that moisture.

Why all the hype about Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is able to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, making it one of the best go-to ingredients for aging skin!

It may be the key ingredient to smooth, flawless, plump, and hydrated skin.

But, just as we lose collagen and elastin as we age, the amount of naturally-occurring Hyaluronic Acid in our bodies decreases as we get older.

Factor in environmental stressors, and our skin has a difficult time retaining moisture.

Internally, Hyaluronic Acid is the key molecule in our skin's ability to retain moisture.

Externally, a pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum is the perfect type of skin hydrator.

What are the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Serum?

Because of its ability to hydrate the skin, a pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum is one of the most recommended serums for plumping up fine lines and wrinkles, while relieving dehydration and adding extra hydration to the skin.

It makes it one of the best anti-aging serums!

Studies have shown that Hyaluronic Acid helps to maintain, and repair, the skin's lipid barrier - the skin's defense mechanism against environmental stressors and free radical damage, as well as improving both collagen and elastin in the skin.

The best Hyaluronic Acid Serum

The best Hyaluronic Acid Serum, and my favorite, is from Timeless Skincare. This serum contains 1% pure Hyaluronic Acid, the highest concentration in maintaining the skin’s moisture levels.

This formula is also paraben free, cruelty free, fragrance free, and no color or dye is added. And, it's made in the USA.

What else does Hyaluronic Acid Serum do for you skin?

When Hyaluronic Acid Serum is applied topically to the surface of the skin it can reduce redness, irritation, and dermatitis.

When coupled with other serums, Hyaluronic Acid Serum helps in the delivery of those ingredients across the skin.

Do you need to use a moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid Serum?

You should pair your Hyaluronic Acid Serum with a moisturizer.

Since it seeks out moisture to bind to, you don't want it pulling moisture from your skin.

One of the biggest mistakes people make with Hyaluronic Acid is using it alone as a stand-alone moisturizer.

Used alone, Hyaluronic Acid sits on top of your skin and will pull water out of your skin. That water will evaporate into the air, leaving your face drier than before.

By pairing your Hyaluronic Acid Serum with a quality moisturizer, and applying it to slightly damp skin, or directly after your serums, you'll lock in all that added moisture and get an optimum level of added hydration.

How I use Hyaluronic Acid Serum

After I've washed my face with my CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, I lightly blot it dry.

Next, I use either my Vitamin C Serum or my Curology (tretinoin).

Then I apply my other serums - one right after the other (CoQ10, Matrixyl 3000, and Matrixyl Synthe'6).

I finish by taking a small pump of my CeraVe Moisturizing Cream and add 2 drops of my Timeless Hyaluronic Acid Serum to it.

I apply that to my face, eyelids, neck, upper chest, and the backs of my hands to lock in that hydration!

How should I store my Hyaluronic Acid Serum?

To get the best possible results from your Hyaluronic Acid Serum, it should be housed in a glass container, preferably with an eye dropper applicator, in a cool environment and away from direct sunlight to ensure it remains potent and you get the longest shelf life.

Personally, I keep all of my serums refrigerated so they're not subjected to temperature fluctuations and to extend their shelf life.

I reviewed The Best Skincare Mini Fridge to store your serums, moisturizers, Retin-A - all of your skincare! You can read that article, here.

Can I use Hyaluronic Acid Serum everyday?

Yes, you can use it daily.

Personally, I use my Timeless Hyaluronic Acid Serum twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.

Parting thoughts...

I've been using the Timeless Hyaluronic Acid Serum for just under a year and love the benefits I'm seeing.

I've noticed my skin looks plumper and more hydrated.

Where my face used to feel tight and dry, it now feels soft, smooth, and hydrated.

And, I love that I use a lot less of my moisturizer when I pair it with just 2 drops of my Hyaluronic Acid Serum.

It really stretches my moisturizer and allows my skin to feel super hydrated for a lot longer.
