Curology for Anti-Aging Skincare?

I started using Curology the first week of June and I'm super excited about it!

If you're not familiar with Curology it's a customized prescription program that pairs you with a dermatologist to address your anti-aging skincare issues.

It's all done online.

For me, it's the most convenient way to get my prescription Retin-A without leaving my home to visit a dermatologist.

How does Curology work?

You complete a questionnaire, upload a couple of photos and they assign you a dermatologist that formulates your prescription cream using the best three ingredients to address your anti-aging skincare issues.

I want all the anti-aging so the 3 ingredients in my prescription are: Tretinoin (Retin-A), Azelaic Acid, and Niacinamide.

As your skin changes, you can adjust the formula up, or down, by contacting your provider via their online form.

What is Tretinoin used for?

Tretinoin is a powerful proven prescription medication used in anti-aging skincare to treat sun-damaged skin, surface wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots.

Tretinoin is the active ingredient in Retin-A.

What's Azelaic Acid used for?

Azelaic Acid can reduce hyperpigmentation, brown spots, and redness on the skin.

How does Niacinamide help mature skin?

Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3.

It helps prevent trans-epidermal water loss by helping the skin retain moisture.

Niacinamide reduces inflammation and helps to reduce hyperpigmentation.

Niacinamide improves the surface structure of the skin, helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, decreases redness and yellowness (sallowness), and improves the skin's elasticity.

How I use Curology

I take 2 pumps of my Curology (about the size of two peas) and apply them to my face, neck, and the backs of my hands.

I rub it in really good and let it set for about 5 minutes before I go in with my anti-aging serums. (I do not apply it to my eye lids or my lips.)

What I noticed

My skin felt super smooth and soft after only using it a few times!

Because I've had zero sensitivity with the Tretinoin, I contacted my provider at Curology and had her increase the percentage.

My goal is to get to 1% in my prescription to reap the full anti-aging benefits of this proven anti-aging, wrinkle fighting, ingredient!

How much does Curology cost?

There's a couple of different subscription options with Curology.

You can purchase a one month supply, or two months at a time.

You can also add on an optional moisturizer and a cleanser.

Your first month includes a free, 30 day trail, for $4.95 to cover shipping and handling.

After that, it depends on what options you choose.

A one month prescription starts at $19.95 +$4.95 shipping & handling.

Do dermatologists recommend Curology?

According the the Curology website:

"If you already have a dermatologist, we recommend staying with them, as your current doctor can continue to treat you face-to-face.

Prescription medications from your local dermatologist may have active ingredients similar to what you might receive in a Curology formula.

If you don’t otherwise have access to a board-certified dermatologist, Curology might be a great fit! Other reasons members love Curology include:

  • Time. No need to fit an appointment into your already-packed day.

  • Availability. No need to wait 3-4 months or more for the next available dermatology appointment in your area.

  • Distance. No need to find transportation for a long drive.

  • Affordability. With or without insurance, Curology is a better value for most people. A consultation with a licensed medical provider and a personalized prescription skincare medication cost less than many insurance copays!"

Is Curology FDA approved?

Curology uses ingredients that are FDA approved. They combine those ingredients into a customized formula for you.

How I store my Curology

Personally, I keep all of my anti-aging skincare and anti-aging serums refrigerated so they're not subjected to temperature fluctuations and to extend their shelf life.

I reviewed The Best Skincare Mini Fridge to store your serums, moisturizers, Curology, etc... all of your skincare! You can read that article, here.

Parting thoughts...

Being over 50, I knew I wanted to incorporate Tretinoin (Retin-A) into my anti-aging skincare routine.

A trip to a dermatologist and the hefty price tag for a tube of Tretinoin kept me from doing so.

Having access to Curology changed all of that for me!

It's convenient, fast, affordable, and I didn't have to leave my home!

I have access to my provider, via their online messaging system, 24/7.

As my skin changes and improves so to will my prescription, all at my fingertips!

I love that my formula includes two other powerhouse, anti-aging ingredients making it that much more effective at addressing my anti-aging skin care needs.

If you're looking to get started on Retin-A, be sure to check out Curology! I'm super happy I did!
