The Benefits of Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10, also known as ubiquinone or CoQ10, is a powerful anti-aging antioxidant for your skin.

What is Coenzyme Q10?

Coenzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring antioxidant produced within your body. It's a fat-soluble substance found in almost every tissue. Your body produces it, naturally and uses it to target and eliminate free radical cells - the cells that cause damage to your skin.

As your body ages, it makes less. This leaves your skin cells more vulnerable to free radical damage.

What are Free Radicals?

Free radicals occur from environmental stressors such as sun damage, pollution, exposure to toxins, etc...

Free radicals are responsible for breaking down your skin's collagen, resulting in fine lines, wrinkling, hyperpigmentation, dark spots or age spots, and loose, saggy skin.

One of the ways we can help our body get the Coenzyme Q10 it needs is by adding it back in, topically! You're literally feeding it back to your skin cells from the outside in!

My favorite is from Timeless Skincare.

I love that the Timeless Coenzyme Q10 Serum is formulated with both Matrixyl 3000 and Hyaluronic Acid which helps to maximize the synthesis of collagen in the skin as it adds hydration.

(If you want to learn more about why I love my Matrixyl 3000 Serum, you can check out that article, here.)

This formula is also paraben free, cruelty free, fragrance free, and no color or dye is added. And, it's made in the USA.

What does Coenzyme Q10 do?

Coenzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring antioxidant that provides cells with energy to build collagen & elastin.

It prevents the visible signs of aging by restoring the skin's firmness.

It helps to repair environmentally damaged skin while protecting against future damage.

Overtime it works to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

How to store Coenzyme Q10 Serum

To get the best possible results from your Coenzyme Q10 Serum, it should be housed in an opaque, glass container, in a cool environment and away from direct sunlight to ensure it remains potent and you get the longest shelf life.

The Timeless Coenzyme Q10 Serum comes in the correct type of container ensuring the longest life from your serum when stored properly.

Personally, I keep all of my serums refrigerated so they're not subjected to temperature fluctuations and to extend their shelf life.

I reviewed The Best Skincare Mini Fridge to store your serums, moisturizers, Retin-A - all of your skincare! You can read that article, here.

Should I be using Coenzyme Q10?

Let me give you a resounding yes!! I'd say, next to my Curology, my Coenzyme Q10 Serum from Timeless Skincare is my #2! It's that powerful and that necessary for your skin!

Coenzyme Q10 is recommended for all skin types: Normal, Dry, Oily and Mature skin!

If you're on a bit of a budget and you need to pick and choose your serums, or if you're starting out your anti-aging skincare regime with just one serum at a time, you want to make sure the CoQ10 serum is at the top of your serum list!

Can I use Coenzyme Q10 Serum everyday?

Yes, you can use it daily, preferably before your moisturizer.

Personally, I use my Timeless Coenzyme Q10 Serum twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.

Parting thoughts...

I've been using the Timeless Coenzyme Q10 Serum for just under a year and love the benefits I'm seeing. It's definitely one of my favorite anti-aging serums!

I've noticed my skin looks plumper and more hydrated. Especially on my cheeks where I've sustained the most sun damage and have the largest loss of both collagen and elastin.

My Coenzyme Q10 Serum works beautifully with both of my Matrixyls. They all work together to help repair the damage from the previous 4+ decades and help to keep my skin from experiencing further damage.
